Sephiria Stuck? How to Fix 'Talk to Rylie', the Library Bench Trap and Lost Quest Progress

Sephiria can strand you in three different ways — a Chapter 6 quest that reverts to 'Talk to Rylie', a bench in the Library that traps you, or a quest flag that never saved. Here is how to tell which one you have, what actually recovers the run, and what permanently ends it.

v1.0Updated: 2026-10-24
Sephiria 1.0 / Updated: October 24, 2026

"I'm stuck in Sephiria" is not one bug. It is three different failures that look identical from the player's chair — you are standing in a room, the objective will not advance, and nothing you press helps. The recovery differs for each, and one wrong choice (forfeiting instead of quitting) turns a recoverable run into a lost one.

This guide separates the cases, gives the recovery route for each, and lists what TEAM HORAY has already patched so you know whether you are hitting a live bug or an old build.

Before anything else: update. The newest announcement as of this guide is 1.0.33 (September 11, 2026) — there is no October patch. Several blocks below were fixed in 1.0.23, 1.0.24 and 1.0.29, so an older build may be the whole problem.

Step 1 — Work out which kind of stuck you are

SymptomMost likely causeFix section

Free movement plus a normal world means a quest-state problem. A wedged character means geometry. A normal world with a missing NPC or object means a save-flag problem.

Fix A — Chapter 6 says "Talk to Rylie" but Rylie is gone

The most-reported block in the game's Steam discussions — and in the documented cases the save is not corrupted.

What is happening. To begin the final chapter you talk to Rylie, the village chief, and the village transforms. A second character leaves town at that moment: Seyla, the fox hero — not Rylie. Players who see an empty spot conclude the chief has vanished, but per TEAM HORAY's reply in the 1.0.22 announcement comments, Rylie is still in town, standing just left of the dungeon entrance. Do this, in order:
  1. Do not start a new run and do not delete the save. The quest state is intact.
  2. Check left of the dungeon entrance and talk to Rylie there. This alone resolved the reported cases.
  3. If Rylie is genuinely absent, quit to the title screen and reload — not Forfeit. Quest text is re-read on load, and a stale objective marker sometimes clears.
  4. If the objective still will not move, read Fix D before you open multiplayer.
What appears to trigger it. Two independent reports describe the same pattern: the quest reverts after the player changes attributes or starting gear during the Chapter 6 transition, and a second variant appears after opening multiplayer and watching the cutscene. Treat both as "do not do this mid-transition" rather than confirmed causes — the relevant fix note is deliberately vague ("Improved some issues where story progression could occasionally become blocked", 1.0.23). If you cannot progress at all, back up the save before touching anything — the Save File Guide has the paths.

Fix B — Trapped in the Library post-boss room

There is a bench in the post-boss room at the end of the Library area that traps your character when you touch it. A Steam discussion thread reports it ending two runs; the original poster calls it "a black hole that grabs anyone who touches it."

The recovery is a Quit, not a Forfeit.
  1. Open the pause menu.
  2. Choose Quit — the option that closes the game back to the menu. Do not choose Forfeit.
  3. Relaunch and load the save.
  4. You respawn at the entrance of the area you entered, so you fight the boss again. The run — weapons, artifacts, progress — survives.
In co-op this workaround does not exist. Quitting ends the run for the group, which is how the reporting player lost theirs.

Geometry traps are a known category: 1.0.31 fixed characters getting "stuck on certain terrain corners", and the collision system it introduced is what 1.0.33 suspects of letting enemies walk through walls.

Fix C — A finished quest did not save

If an NPC, stall or reward you already earned is missing, the quest probably never had its completion flag set.

The documented case is the Fruit Skewer: a player could not find the stand anywhere in the village, including in their own lobby. The Steam reply explains the rule — after finishing the quest you must return to the NPC who gave it so the "Quest Complete" flag is written, and only then log out. Quitting between "objective done" and "turn-in" leaves the quest open, and the world reverts to pre-quest state on the next load. The same player also found the stand locked at the tree and had to unlock it first, so check the physical unlock before suspecting a save problem.

Rule of thumb: talk to the giver until the dialogue stops offering new lines, then save and quit — never mid-transition or right after an objective ticks over.

Fix D — Co-op progress desync

Mismatched chapter state between host and client is the classic way a co-op session poisons a save. Resolve any chapter difference before inviting — 1.0.24 explicitly fixed "a bug where players with mismatched chapter progress could be invited under certain conditions".

Patched multiplayer blocks:

  • Entering a Chapter 6 lobby while still in Chapter 5 and clearing the game blocked further progression — fixed in 1.0.24.
  • Progress freezing after a game over in Chapter 6 multiplayer — fixed in 1.0.29 (shipped inside the 1.0.28 post).
  • Freezing when the game forcibly moves a player talking to an NPC — fixed in 1.0.24.

Patching does not retroactively repair an already-broken save; restore a backup taken before the session. For connection-layer problems see the Multiplayer Connection Fixes, and for a client that freezes mid-run see the Co-op Freeze Recovery Guide.

Prevention checklist

  • Never Forfeit to test a suspected soft-lock. Quit and reload first; Forfeit is what discards the run.
  • Turn in quests before you log out. Completion flags are written at the NPC, not at the objective.
  • Do not change attributes, gear or multiplayer state during a chapter transition or cutscene.
  • Keep a manual save backup before Chapter 6 or any co-op session — see the Save File Guide.
  • Do not touch the bench in the Library post-boss room. In co-op there is no recovery.

Reporting a block that survives all of this

TEAM HORAY is actively asking for reproductions: the 1.0.33 post states they could not reproduce the wall-clipping issue and requests video plus game version, system specs and whether mods are in use. Use the same package for a progression block, plus the quest text as displayed and whether the save had ever been in co-op. Post it in the Steam Discussions for app 2436940 — the developers answer there.

Game version: 1.0

Official: The current build reference for this guide (the newest announcement before 2026-10-24 is the 1.0.33 update of 2026-09-11). It carries an open Known Issue: enemies moving outside walls, suspected to be caused by the new collision system added in 1.0.31 to fix a corner-stuck issue in the final stage; TEAM HORAY says they have been unable to reproduce it and ask players for video, game version, system specs and whether mods are in use.

Official: Lists 'Improved some issues where story progression could occasionally become blocked' (community-feedback flagged) and 'Rylie: When a main quest is in progress, main quest dialogue is now shown before potion quest dialogue.' Also fixes the Fruit Skewer carrot being disabled in certain situations and makes the game restore the final achievement when entering town.

Official: Fixes 'a bug where players with mismatched chapter progress could be invited under certain conditions', 'a bug where clearing the game after entering another player's Chapter 6 multiplayer lobby while progressing through Chapter 5 would prevent further progression', and 'a bug where the game could freeze when forcibly moving a player while they were talking to an NPC in multiplayer'.

Official: Includes the 1.0.29 line 'Fixed a bug where progress would occasionally freeze after a game over in Chapter 6 multiplayer environments.' The same post's 1.0.28 section covers a corrupted story-object UI in Chapter 4 and a Hard Mode difficulty level that could not be changed with a gamepad.

Official: Under Chapter 6 Final Boss: 'Fixed an issue where the boss remained invincible if it was stunned while teleporting', 'Fixed an issue where the boss did not move while stunned at the start of certain patterns', and 'Fixed an issue where the Give Up button could not be used after the battle until the next expedition.' The last line matters for anyone who beat the final boss and could not leave.

Community: A player reports that the bench in the post-boss room at the end of the Library area traps you inside when you touch it, with no way out; it cost them two runs and they ask for an 'unstuck' command. Replies give the recovery route: quit the game — explicitly NOT Forfeit — and reload, which respawns you at the entrance of the area you entered and costs you a boss refight but not the run. The original poster's lost runs were in multiplayer, where quitting ends the run entirely.

Community: Multiple independent reports of the Chapter 6 start blocking: after talking to Rylie and seeing the village change, the quest reverts to 'Talk to Rylie' and Rylie appears to be gone, so the tower will not open. One player reproduced it after switching attributes and starting gear; another after opening multiplayer and watching the cutscene. TEAM HORAY replied that the save is fine — the character who leaves is Seyla, the fox hero, while Rylie the chief is still in town, just left of the dungeon entrance. A Korean-language report describes the same state plus the Fruit Skewer disappearing.

Community: A player could not find the Fruit Skewer stand in the village, including in their own lobby. The reply explains that after finishing the quest you must return to the NPC who gave it so the 'Quest Complete' flag is set before you log out, otherwise it is not saved. The original poster resolved it themselves: the Fruit Skewer was locked at the tree, and they had to unlock it, do the quest, then talk to the NPC.

Editorial: The three-way diagnosis table, the ordering of fixes (quest state first, geometry second, co-op state third), the instruction never to Forfeit while testing a suspected soft-lock, and the prevention checklist are this guide's editorial synthesis of the sources above. The mapping of the 'Library' area in the bench report to Chapter 3 (The Mirrored Library) is inferred from the chapter list and is flagged [Unconfirmed] in the text.
