Complete guide to Sephiria's Inscription system. How Destiny Inscriptions work, socket slots and Inscription Shards, what to unlock first, and how inscriptions complement Talents and artifacts.

What Are Inscriptions?

Inscriptions are socketable passive bonuses that you slot into your gear. They function like runes or gems in other games — you find or buy them, socket them, and they provide permanent passive effects. Unlike artifacts (which reset each run), inscriptions are persistent between runs — once unlocked, you keep them forever.

Destiny Inscriptions

Destiny Inscriptions are the permanent meta-progression layer, purchased with sapphires — the permanent currency you earn from every run, win or lose. They are the main reason every run makes your account stronger, even failed ones.

Socket Slots & Inscription Shards

Your gear has socket capacity that can be expanded. Inscription Shards unlock and upgrade socket slots on your gear — they persist between runs. Shards come from:

How to Build with Inscriptions

Inscriptions cover a wide range of effects — offense (damage, crit), defense (damage reduction, sustain), and utility (mobility, economy). The general rules:

  • Fill gaps, don't double up. If your artifacts and tablets cover damage, use inscription choices for defense and sustain.
  • Match your build direction. A crit build wants crit-supporting bonuses; a tanky build wants sustain.
  • Socket space is power. Unlock socket slots before chasing specific effects — capacity beats any single bonus.

Inscriptions vs Artifacts — Key Differences

AspectInscriptionsArtifacts
---------
Persist between runs?Yes (permanent)No (per run only)
How do you get them?Unlocked permanently (sapphires, shards)Found each run; some permanently unlocked via achievements
Rarity system?YesYes (Common to Legendary)
The "permanent power" ruleInscriptions provide permanent account power — prioritize them for long-term progressionArtifacts define each individual run
Pro tip: Inscriptions make every subsequent run easier — they're the backbone of the meta-progression loop. But a run is won or lost on your artifact/tablet setup, so both matter.
