Sephiria Wishing Fountain Guide — Capacity and Best Picks
Sephiria's Wishing Fountain picks your starting artifacts. The capacity math patch notes confirm, what the Journal checkbox does, and what remains unconfirmed.
The Wishing Fountain is Sephiria's pre-run artifact picker: before an expedition starts, you spend a capacity budget on artifacts you have already unlocked, and they travel with you from the first room. Base capacity is 4, and the Willpower talent can lift it to 9 — enough for roughly one legendary plus one common, not a full loadout.
Most confusion around it comes from mixing three different numbers: the capacity the patch notes publish, the per-rarity costs fan wikis quote, and the odds of an artifact appearing at all. Only the first is officially documented, so this page keeps them apart.
What the Fountain Actually Is
The fountain sits in the permanent progression layer, alongside Talents and Destiny Engravings (called Destiny Inscriptions in newer posts — the announcements use both names). The 0.7.43 update added a dedicated engraving type for it and a preview of which artifacts can be unlocked through engravings; 1.0 continued the pattern, unlocking the Side Bag and a Fruit Skewer quest through Destiny Inscriptions.
The fountain is not a shop, not a reroll, and not a second artifact inventory. It is a starting-loadout decision made once per expedition.
Earlier pages on this site call this an "Artifact Slot +1" Destiny Inscription. No official post uses that phrasing: the documented pre-run artifact capacity system is the fountain plus Willpower, so read "artifact slot" as shorthand for fountain capacity.
Why Your Selectable List Looks Short
Two filters apply before you ever see the pool.
| Filter | What it removes | Where it is documented |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock state | Artifacts you have never unlocked | Official preview feature added in 0.7.43 |
| Weapon compatibility | Weapon-exclusive artifacts belonging to other weapons | Official 0.7.45: "artifacts for other weapons can no longer be selected" |
The weapon rule is the one players ask about most. It was added in July 2025 "to avoid confusion", and it means a Sword and Shield run will not be offered another weapon's exclusives even if you own them. If something looks missing rather than greyed out, check the unlock side first.
The Capacity Math the Patch Notes Confirm
This is the part that is actually documented, and it is a short list.
| Capacity source | Value | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Base capacity (since 0.10.0) | 4 | Official |
| Willpower talent, level 5 | +1 | Official |
| Willpower talent, level 20 | +4 | Official |
| Ceiling from base + Willpower | 9 | Official arithmetic |
| Costumes with fountain stats | announced, no number published | Official (existence only) |
| Internal ceiling | 12 points | [Community] — mod author |
The 0.10.0 "Chapter 4" update did not raise the ceiling; it reshuffled it. Base capacity went from 3 to 4 while the maximum bonus from Willpower dropped from 6 to 5, so a fully invested character still tops out at 9 points. The same patch cut Willpower's level 5 side effect from 3 starting dice to 2, which is why the talent reads differently in older guides than in current ones.
Players pushed back on that trade in the 0.7.43 comments, which explains the numbers fan guides still quote: "Shouldn't 20 Will give us +9 in the Wish Fountain, not +6?" Korean replies in the same thread argued the reverse — that a +5 bonus on a base of 4 would be cleaner than +6 on a base of 3. Both sides were working from the pre-0.10.0 values, which is exactly why the ceiling of 9 keeps getting reported as 12.
Costumes are the wildcard. TEAM HORAY confirmed costumes carrying "stats that weren't used before, like Fruit Skewer and Wishing Fountain", but never published a value. A mod author reports the game enforces an internal 12-point limit, which would imply costumes supply the remaining 3 points — treat that as a community observation, not a rule.
What One Pick Costs
The per-rarity costs below come from fan wikis only. No official post states them, and we could not verify them in-game, so they are marked [Unconfirmed] and should be treated as a planning heuristic rather than a table of truth.
| Rarity | Capacity cost [Unconfirmed] | What a 4-point budget allows | What a 9-point budget allows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 3 | one common, 1 point wasted | up to three commons |
| Advanced | 4 | exactly one advanced | two advanced, 1 point wasted |
| Rare | 5 | nothing — over budget | one rare plus one common |
| Legendary | 6 | nothing — over budget | one legendary plus one common |
If those costs are right, the practical consequence is blunt: at base capacity you cannot start with anything above Advanced, and the Legendary tier only opens up once Willpower is deep. That single arithmetic fact explains most of the "the fountain is useless early" sentiment, and it also explains why the capacity talent is rated so highly in build write-ups.
The Journal Checkbox — What Favouriting Does
Official notes confirm the mechanic exists. The 0.9.5 update fixed a bug where "items checked in the Journal and Wishing Fountain applied current player stats to the display", which tells us two things: there is a per-item checked state, and it is shared between the Journal and the fountain screen.
What the checkbox is for is less certain. Fan wikis say the Journal favourite key defaults to middle mouse, that favourited artifacts get their own tab at the fountain, and — importantly — that favouriting does not raise the chance of an artifact appearing. That last point is [Unconfirmed]: no official post addresses odds. What can be said safely is that the fountain pool is built from your unlocks, and nothing in the patch history describes a favouriting-based weighting change.
Practically, the checkbox is a shortlist tool: marking your usual two or three starting artifacts keeps the fountain screen readable.
Using the Fountain at the Start of a Run
- Start an expedition. The fountain resolves before the first room, not mid-run.
- Read the pool, not your inventory. Only unlocked, weapon-compatible artifacts appear.
- Spend against capacity, not against a slot count. If the fan-wiki cost table holds, one Rare eats most of a base budget. [Unconfirmed]
- Confirm the pick. There is no confirmation of a refund or swap after the fact — no patch note describes one.
- Expect leftovers to vanish. Capacity is a per-run budget; unspent points do not carry into the expedition.
Multi-selection is the one step where sources genuinely disagree. Fan guides describe taking several artifacts when capacity allows; the official notes only discuss capacity as a pool of points, which is consistent with multi-select but never spells it out. Test it once at low stakes before building a run around it.
How to Spend a 4- or 9-Point Budget
Advice here is our own, and it is deliberately role-based rather than a list of named artifacts — the pool depends on your unlocks, so any fixed ranking would be wrong for most accounts.
- Early damage still wins. The fountain's value is smoothing the first area, where your build has the fewest pieces.
- Don't buy a second copy of what your build already covers. If your artifacts and tablets already push crit, a crit starting item is often worth less than a utility one.
- Plan around the 9-point ceiling. Two mid-tier items beat one legendary plus 3 wasted points if the legendary does nothing for your weapon.
- Luck is a different lever. Players report that Luck raises the chance of higher-rarity artifact and tablet drops, and that the stat tooltip shows the increased odds. Nothing suggests Luck changes the fountain's pool.
- Treat capacity as a talent decision. Willpower level 20 costs a lot of points for +4 capacity; it only pays off if you plan runs around specific carry-ins.
Patch History and Known Bugs
| Version | Date | Fountain-relevant change |
|---|---|---|
| 0.7.43 | Jul 1, 2025 | New Destiny Engraving type for the fountain; artifact unlock preview; Journal tag/grade search |
| 0.7.45 | Jul 11, 2025 | Other weapons' exclusive artifacts no longer selectable |
| 0.7.50 | Jul 25, 2025 | Selection UI fixed for controllers at certain resolutions |
| 0.9.5 | Oct 31, 2025 | Checked items no longer display current player stats |
| 0.9.6 | Nov 11, 2025 | Certain artifacts no longer display abnormal values |
| 0.10.0 | Dec 24, 2025 | Base 3 → 4; Willpower max bonus 6 → 5; level 5 starting dice 3 → 2; level 20 bonus 6 → 4 |
| 0.12.4 | Jul 16, 2026 | Fixed no items being granted when the OS language was Turkish |
All of those are fixed. If the fountain misbehaves on 1.0.33 it is a new issue; for reporting, the 1.0.33 post asks for video, game version, system specs and whether mods are in use.
FAQ
Why can't I select an artifact I own?
Most likely it is a weapon-exclusive artifact for a different weapon — that filter has been active since 0.7.45. The other possibility is that it sits above your remaining capacity, though the UI should make that obvious.
Does favouriting make an artifact show up more often?
No official source says it does, and fan wikis say the opposite: favouriting filters the display without changing odds. [Unconfirmed] — but there is no evidence for the popular belief either.
Is Willpower level 20 worth it for the fountain alone?
Officially it grants +4 on top of the +1 at level 5, taking you from 4 to 9 points. Whether that is worth a heavy talent investment depends on whether you plan runs around specific starting artifacts.
Can I change my pick after confirming?
No patch note describes a swap, refund or re-roll at the fountain, and we found no player report of one. Treat the choice as final for the run.
The capacity numbers above are what TEAM HORAY has actually published; everything beyond that is community observation or fan-wiki arithmetic.
