How Costumes Work
Costumes in Sephiria are cosmetic — they change your rabbit warrior's appearance in runs and in co-op lobbies. There are 20+ costumes available at 1.0.
- Costumes are account-wide: once unlocked, they can be equipped from the character customization menu on any save.
- They are earned through gameplay, not purchases — story progress, challenge milestones, and achievements unlock them.
- Cosmetics have no gameplay effect — a costume never changes your stats or run.
How Costume Unlocks Work
Costumes unlock through the game's normal progression systems. The unlock categories:
| Unlock Category | How You Earn It | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| --- | --- | --- |
| Story progress | Defeating chapter bosses while climbing | One per major boss defeat |
| Run milestones | Full clears, no-death climbs, speed achievements | Beat the game's ending |
| Challenge modes | Hard Mode and Gauntlet Mode milestones | The prestige cosmetics |
| Achievements | The 27-achievement roster rewards several costumes | Grindy but deterministic |
| Co-op milestones | Wins with a party | Rewards team play |
Because the exact unlock lists are spread across the game's achievement screen, the reliable way to plan your grind is:
- Open the achievement screen — every achievement that rewards a costume lists its unlock condition.
- Pick your target — the hardest-to-earn costumes come from Hard Mode and the endgame challenge modes.
- Check the character menu — costumes you haven't earned yet show their unlock hint.
Which Costumes Are Worth Grinding?
- Best flex: the Hard Mode completion costume — no RNG, pure skill, and most players never see it.
- Best story rewards: the chapter-completion costumes — every full climb earns one.
- Best for co-op: the co-op milestone costume — recognizable at a glance in lobbies.
- Best bragging rights: the endgame challenge costumes — they show you cleared the hardest content.
If you only care about one, go for the Hard Mode completion costume: it's the community's most respected cosmetic.
Costume FAQ
Do costumes affect gameplay? No — they are purely cosmetic. Can I preview costumes before unlocking? Yes — the character customization menu previews every costume, locked or not. Do I need to re-earn costumes on new saves? No — costumes are account-wide once unlocked. Are costumes ever pay-only? At 1.0, costumes are earned through gameplay. If that changes, the official Steam page will say so.Related Guides
