Potions & Consumables Guide — All Types, Best Uses & Where to Find Them
Complete Sephiria consumables guide: healing potions, buff potions, offensive consumables, potion strategy by chapter, and what to save for boss floors.
Potions & Consumables Guide — All Types, Best Uses & Where to Find Them
Health regeneration is scarce in Sephiria — you often finish a floor on whatever HP you started it with. Potions and consumables are your only reliable source of mid-run healing, and knowing what to buy, what to save, and when to use each type is the difference between reaching the boss with full HP or limping in at half.
There are 30+ potions and consumables in the game, in three broad families. This guide covers how they work, where to find them, and the usage strategy that keeps you alive through Chapter 6.
Healing Potions
Your primary survival tool. Healing potions come in different sizes and strengths:
| Type | Best Use |
|---|---|
| -------- | ------ |
| Small healing potions | Use between trash fights to top off |
| Standard healing potions | Save for mid-boss and elite rooms |
| Strong healing potions | Save for chapter bosses only |
Where to Find Healing Potions
| Source | Reliability |
|---|---|
| ------ | :--: |
| Shop nodes | Guaranteed — always check the shop before the boss |
| Healing pickups on the map | Guaranteed — prioritize these if your HP is low |
| Breakable objects (barrels, crates) | Random — break everything on every floor |
| Enemy drops | Common — elites often drop potions |
| Secret rooms | Rare but high-value — often contain strong potions |
Potion Strategy by Chapter
| Chapter | Recommended Stock Before Boss |
|---|---|
| ------ | :--: |
| 1 | 1 standard potion (the boss is manageable) |
| 2 | 1-2 standard potions |
| 3 | 2 standard + 1 strong (first difficulty spike) |
| 4 | 2 strong potions |
| 5 | 2-3 strong potions (longest chapter) |
| 6 | 3+ strong + any buffs you've saved (boss gauntlet, no recovery rooms) |
Potion Capacity
You carry a limited number of potions per run. The Extra Potion Slot Destiny Inscription permanently adds a slot — it's one of the best early unlocks (see the Inscriptions Guide).
Buff Potions
Buff potions provide temporary boosts. They're best used right before an elite fight or boss door — save them for the moments they matter.
| Buff Type | Best Use |
|---|---|
| ------ | ------ |
| Damage buffs | Boss fights; pair with your weapon's strengths |
| Defense / HP buffs | Hard fights — especially Chapter 3+ bosses and Hard Mode |
| Speed buffs | Bullet-hell-style boss phases where dodging matters |
| Element buffs | Element builds — stack with your element tablets |
| Crit buffs | Crit builds — pair with the right tablet setup |
Where to Find Buff Potions
- Shop nodes — random buff potions available
- Secret rooms — occasionally contain rare buffs
- Elite and challenge rewards — guaranteed drops from some encounters
Offensive Consumables
Some consumables deal damage or control enemies rather than heal. They're found from breaking objects and drops:
| Consumable | Best Use |
|---|---|
| ------ | ------ |
| Explosives | Clear dense trash rooms; damage elites without engaging |
| Throwing items | Finish off low-HP enemies; trigger hazards from range |
| Area control items | Create safe zones during multi-wave fights |
Mystic Pot (Artifact Re-rolling)
The Mystic Pot is the artifact-conversion station. It does not create consumable potions — it converts artifacts:
- 1 artifact → 1 artifact of the same rarity (re-roll)
- 2 artifacts → 1 artifact of the next rarity (upgrade)
For the full Mystic Pot strategy, see the Mystic Pot Guide.
Consumable Inventory Management
Prioritize your limited potion slots:
- Strong healing potion (always keep one slotted)
- Buff potion for your build (damage for burst weapons, defense for slow ones)
- Standard healing potion (backup)
- Flex slot — explosive early, buff potion pre-boss, empty for pickups
Co-op Consumable Sharing
In multiplayer:
- Potions are per-player — you can't trade them, but you can ping their locations
- Area healing effects help everyone in range — drop them near your lowest-HP teammate
- Reviving a downed player doesn't cost a potion — it's a channeled interaction (see the Co-op Guide)
- Let the host buy first at shops — the host's game state determines shop inventory
