Speedrunning Sephiria

Sephiria's procedural tower layout and deep combat make it an excellent speedrun game. A well-optimized run clears all 6 chapters far faster than a casual run — the difference between a first-time player's climb and a speedrun is mostly routing and decision-making, not raw skill.

This guide covers the fundamentals: route philosophy, the fastest weapons, what to skip, and how to practice.

Best Weapons for Speed

WeaponSpeedrun TierWhy
----------------------------
CrossbowS-TierSafe range + fast room clear. The community's default speedrun weapon — you almost never need to stop moving
GreatswordA-TierStagger chains delete elites and bosses quickly. Slightly slower room clear
StaffA-TierElemental AoE wipes rooms. Requires tablet investment to shine
Sword & ShieldB-TierReliable and safe, but block-first play slows runs down
DaggerB-TierFast, but short range forces risky positioning
KatanaB-TierHigh burst, high skill — great once you're experienced
Recommendation: start with the Crossbow. Its safety and room-clearing speed make it the most forgiving option while still achieving top-tier times.

Artifacts & Inscriptions for Speed

Speedruns benefit from permanent progression (see the Inscriptions Guide):

  • Sapphires are the speedrun currency — Destiny Inscriptions that boost damage, movement, and sustain make every subsequent run faster.
  • Damage-multiplier artifacts are the in-run priority — anything that speeds up boss kills beats defense when you're racing.
  • Element tablets (see the Tablets Guide) — commit to one element and let it carry your damage.

Route Philosophy

Skip Everything Optional

In a speedrun, don't full clear:

  1. Only visit rooms on the critical path — bosses gate progression, everything else is optional.
  2. Skip chests unless they're directly on your path — a guaranteed small upgrade is rarely worth 30 seconds.
  3. Skip challenge rooms — they're the biggest time sink for the smallest payoff.
  4. Skip secret rooms — unless you need a specific artifact to survive the boss ahead.

Know the Bosses

Boss fights are where speedruns live or die. The fights are telegraphed and learnable — the fastest players never take avoidable damage because they know every pattern (see the Boss Guide).

Speedrun Tips That Actually Matter

  1. Rush the first chapters. Chapters 1-3 are easy enough that you can rush them with base stats — the run is won or lost in Chapters 5-6.
  2. Spend gold before the boss. Shops and upgrade points between floors are the cheapest power in the game — buy damage, not defense.
  3. Don't reroll. Starting weapon choice matters less than route discipline. Take the first reasonable pick.
  4. Learn the layout rules. Secret rooms and alternate paths follow procedural rules — experienced runners learn to identify the critical path faster.
  5. Your perm-progression carries runs. Veteran runners with maxed Destiny Inscriptions have a massive advantage over new saves — that's intended.

Practice Routines

  1. Run Chapter 1 alone — drill it until you can clear it without thinking.
  2. Practice each boss — run normal climbs up to each boss and replay the fight until it's clean.
  3. Full runs — once individual chapters are clean, link them together.
  4. Review recordings — watch your runs and identify time loss (hesitation, wrong pathing, unnecessary fighting).
