Sephiria Inventory & Side Bag Guide: Slots and Space
Sephiria inventory guide: how many slots the bag holds, every confirmed way to gain more, what the Side Bag does, and why items inside it stop working.
Sephiria's inventory is not a list — it is the build. Artifacts and tablets only work while they sit in the grid, so a slot spent on a spare sword is a slot not spent on damage. Here is how many slots you have, how to gain more, what the Side Bag does, and why items silently stop working.
Two different spaces: the grid and the Side Bag
The grid is your live build. Artifacts and tablets in it apply their effects, feed the adjacency rules that tablets use, and count toward combos. The Side Bag, added in the 1.0 update, is storage: it holds spare items so they stop occupying the grid. [Official]
The rule that catches people out is one line in the 1.0 notes: "Items in the Side Bag are inactive." [Official] An artifact parked there is not a weak artifact, it is not an artifact at all — no stats, no adjacency, no tag for a combo.
That distinction is the whole reason the Side Bag exists. It is where you put the second copy of a weapon you are keeping for the Mystic Pot, the tablets you have not found a home for, and the build-defining piece you are holding until the next shop floor.
How many slots you have, and how to get more
Your capacity is a six-column grid, which means you grow one slot at a time rather than in blocks. Community documentation puts the starting bag at 24 slots and the hard ceiling at 42 — seven full rows — with no way past it. [Community]
| Source | Gain | Permanent? |
|---|---|---|
| Levelling during a run | +1 slot every 2 levels | No — resets with the run |
| Expanding Pouch (Destiny Inscription) | +1 slot per purchase, repeatable | Yes — all future runs |
| Ingenuity talent | +2 slots at level 5 | Yes, while the talent is allocated |
| Survival talent | +3 slots at level 10 | Yes, while the talent is allocated |
| Red Fox costume | +6 slots | Yes, but healing received is halved |
| Fairy of Fortune costume | −3 slots | Yes — a costume that costs you space |
All of those figures are [Community] and none of them appear in the official patch notes; the game's own wardrobe and talent screens are the authority for your build. What the official notes do confirm is the shape of the systems involved — the Destiny Inscription unlocks, the talent trees, and the costume stat lines.
The practical read: the Expanding Pouch is the only repeatable permanent slot source, which is why it competes with damage inscriptions for your early sapphires. If your runs keep ending with items on the floor, buy a pouch before you buy damage.
Unlocking the Side Bag
The Side Bag is not in your inventory at the start of 1.0. The official line is that it "can be unlocked through a Destiny Inscription". [Official] In practice that means it is a meta-progression purchase, sitting alongside the Extra Potion Slot and the Wishing Fountain capacity in the same early-unlock decision set. The Inscriptions Guide covers the priority order for those unlocks.
Unlock it early. It does not raise your carry ceiling, but it converts dead weight into space, and space is the scarcest thing in a build that lives in a grid.
Why an item can sit in your bag and do nothing
Three separate mechanisms produce "my item is not working" reports, and they are worth separating:
- It is in the Side Bag. By design, inactive. Move it to the grid. [Official]
- You are on an old build. The 1.0.23 update fixed a case where starting items obtained from a Costume or Talent kept applying after being placed in the Side Bag. [Official] If an old save behaves differently from a new one, this is the likely reason.
- It is a tablet, and it was never picked up. The 1.0.30 update fixed Tablets not being obtained when changing costumes while the inventory was full. [Official] The tablet existed, the swap happened, and you never received it.
The same family of bugs shows up elsewhere: the 1.0.31 notes cover potions in removed slots dropping to the ground when the potion slot count decreases, and an earlier update fixed items being discarded when transitioning areas while organising the inventory in multiplayer. [Official] The pattern is consistent — when the game changes your slot count underneath you, check the floor before you assume the item is lost.
A quick checklist when a pickup disappears
- Did your equipped costume change in the same moment? Tablets were lost this way before 1.0.30 — update the game. [Official]
- Did your potion slot count drop? Potions land on the ground rather than vanishing, but only after 1.0.31. [Official]
- Is the item actually in the Side Bag? Hover it — inactive items still show their text. [Official]
- Are you in co-op and changed area mid-sort? That was a separate, older discard bug. [Official]
What deserves a slot
The grid is a budget, and the exchange rate is brutal. A reasonable priority order for a run:
| Priority | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Core damage artifacts for your tag | The build only pays out when the tag count is high |
| 2 | Tablets that touch those artifacts | A tablet is only worth its slot if something is adjacent |
| 3 | Combo enablers | The combo layer is a second stat layer — see the Combo System Guide |
| 4 | Consumables you will actually use | A potion slot you never press is a wasted slot |
| 5 | Spare artifacts for the Mystic Pot | This is what the Side Bag is for |
Two consequences worth spelling out. First, an artifact with no tablet next to it is usually the first thing to cut, because tablets are what multiply grid value — the Tablets Guide explains the adjacency rules. Second, keeping spares inside the grid instead of the Side Bag costs you real power: community reports say artifacts in the Side Bag do not count toward combos, so a spare that "might be useful later" is actively suppressing your damage now. [Community]
Some artifacts also care about empty or specific neighbour slots, which makes a fully packed grid its own problem. The post-1.0 pickups and drops are adjustable in a way they were not before — 1.0 "adjusted the area where items can be dropped in the Inventory" — so if you are juggling on the floor, check that you are dropping where you intend. Side Bag vs build presets — do not confuse them
Two "slot" systems sit next to each other and get mixed up constantly:
- Build presets are saved loadout configurations, not inventory space. They went from 5 to 7 in 1.0 and 7 to 15 in 1.0.26, which also added a slot lock. [Official]
- Inventory slots are the 24–42 grid above. [Community]
The 1.0.26 change also turned Reset Slot into Delete Slot, and the notes are blunt that deleted setups cannot be recovered. [Official] If you have been resetting presets to experiment, back the arrangement up first — a loadout you delete is gone.
What is still unconfirmed
- The exact base and maximum slot count. Community-documented at 24 and 42; no official figure exists, and the Talent screen is the only in-game authority.
- Whether costume slot bonuses can be obtained outside their costume condition. The Red Fox's +6 slots are tied to wearing it, so the healing penalty travels with the space.
- Whether the Side Bag ever gains its own capacity upgrades. Nothing in the 1.0–1.0.33 notes suggests it does.
The numbers in this guide are split deliberately: everything an official announcement states is marked [Official], and everything that comes from community documentation is marked [Community] so you can re-check it against your own save.
